Newborn Portraits: Two Seasons, One Album

Over the past two years, I photographed this beautiful, growing family at newborn portrait sessions for both of their sons. Two weeks ago, I shared that being a mom and photographing my own family has enriched my ability as a newborn and family photographer.  Thanks to the help of my two sons, who keep me on my toes, I am able to remain calm and focused when babies and kids have a lot of energy. Capturing photographs of an active toddler and newborn requires experience and the foresight ability to make quick changes when needed.

For both sessions, Mom and Dad made sure the babies were fed and comfortably dressed. The little ones beamed in their parents’ arms and I was able to capture all of this sweetness.  My number one priority as a photographer is encouraging a positive atmosphere so that everyone can feel comfortable while I can capture natural, yet classic shots of the baby and the whole family unit.

We were blessed with two gorgeous days in these contrasting seasons.  At the first son’s newborn session, the family posed in front of hydrangeas in full bloom, the very picture of a flourishing new family. At the younger son’s session this winter, snow flurried down and created a peaceful winter wonderland in which to capture this latest chapter of their lives. Placing this family’s portraits side by side reminds me that each season in family life is special and vibrant, worth capturing and preserving.

Post-session, mom and dad joined me for an online Photo Reveal with a slideshow of some of the highlights from their session. After that, I presented a sample photo album with images from their session and a few wall galleries to share some of the possibilities for displaying and preserving their artwork.  I’ve found that facilitating the process of selecting and ordering photos makes it easier for my clients to achieve their goal of having tangible images to display.  This family chose a 20-page Leather Bound Album to feature images from both their son’s newborn sessions.

Life is sure to be busy for this growing family. With a portable, yet classic album, the memories of those early days with each child are preserved in one place to be treasured for years to come.
