Family Portraits: A Winter Walk at McConnells Mill State Park

As we turn the corner from cold to warm weather, I’ve been having the best time looking back on wintertime photo sessions. I photographed this sweet family of six on a snowy day at McConnells Mill State Park. For this family portrait session, we hiked together along Slippery Rock Creek and stopped along the way to capture warm family moments in the snow. They were visiting from Florida and were excited to experience the Pennsylvania snow together.

McConnells Mill State Park is one of my favorite locations for sessions because it is beautiful year-round. Check out this family portrait session I photographed in autumn. Like most outdoor locations, the scenery at McConnells Mill changes with the seasons. The steadfast pines, soothing water, and mossy terrain (not to mention McConnells Mill’s iconic red, covered bridge) make for a perfect setting for family photographs any time of the year.  It was a joy to take a gorgeous snowy nature walk with this fun-loving family and help preserve a specific moment in their family history. When a portrait session doubles as an adventure in nature, it’s so fun to be there as a family creates new memories in real-time.

Mom, dad and kids did an excellent job choosing layered outfits in neutral tones and soft blues, adding to the feeling of harmony in their photos. The whole family was comfortable and at ease and you can see that in their photos. Their togetherness as a family shines through. I thought it was particularly adorable that each girl found a way to showcase their personal style, a few sequins on a sweater, a trendy vest, and a ruffle of tulle. And their purple gloves add a delightful pop of color to each frame.

I truly enjoyed helping this beautiful family make and capture moments together in the PA snow. It was a hike to remember. To learn more about family portrait sessions, please reach out
