Pittsburgh Newborn Portraits: Moments Filled with Love

I’ve been fortunate to photograph many newborns and their doting parents over the years. And I’ve found that no newborn session is the same. Each new baby is remarkable and each parent was created to nurture, protect, and provide for their child.  It is a beautiful relationship and I feel so honored to document that.

Pittsburgh Newborn Photography: Natural Light at Home

Capturing this sweet, growing family at a newborn session during the holidays this past year was truly a gift. The new parents chose their stylish home as the location for their newborn session, an ideal setting for the comfort and ease of the new baby and parents. Mom and Dad shared that they also had their engagement photos taken at home and hope to plan future sessions there to capture their family in the years to come.

Cranberry Maternity Session: Celebrating the Change from Mrs. and Mr. to Mom and Dad

When you’re expecting, it’s natural to shift your focus to all things baby.  Lots of change comes with pregnancy or adoption.  And when we step back, one of the biggest changes that gets overlooked is our roles in marriage.  We simply adapt to all of the change that comes with this tiny new life.  And it occurred to me recently that a maternity session is not just about the physical change that is taking place, but about the transformation of a couple.  And this mom- and dad-to-be really bear witness to a beautiful beginning on their journey as parents.

Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer: Staying Warm During Cozy In-Home Sessions

Looking back on this newborn session from August, I’m recalling a lesson learned that seems very apt for this cold snowy day.

hello baby!

hello baby!

This tiny sweetheart was having a rough day. She was fussy, though I don’t think you’d know it from these photos, but I could tell this mama was feeling defeated because her baby girl just wasn’t feeling it.

The session went long because we were trying everything. Toward the end of the session, I suggested going outside because I thought she’d like the fresh air and a change of atmosphere and we ended up discovering that this baby girl was probably cold! Immediately, she settled and went right to sleep. Even though her home was a comfortable temperature inside on this hot, summer day, with the outfit changes and bare skin, baby girl was cold!

Pittsburgh Newborn Photography: Let Your Home Set the Tone

I don’t think it occurred to me when I photographed this newborn session, that this home and the family’s wardrobe had a wonderfully consistent color palette. I did remember thinking I wish this family could come and decorate my home! But when I got to work on editing their images, I started noticing a lovely tone that makes their images look like a cohesive set, regardless of which room the family was photographed in. We started in their living room.

This sweet baby was awake most of the session and very curious about the camera!

I really love seeing babies peek back at my camera through their cribs!

And seeing them in their parents arms is even better – so peaceful!

Being able to photograph babies in their parent’s arms is one of the reasons I love the lifestyle approach to photography. For three reasons: the baby is so content, it’s natural, and mom and dad are part of the picture!

And I can’t get enough of tiny baby feet.
