a ceremony prayer

This fun wedding at Oak Lodge in Donegal, Pa., had an unstoppable joy to it.  This sweet couple endured planning a wedding during the pandemic and all of the complications that come with that, and they darted in and out of rain getting ready for their ceremony and during their photos that followed.  But what really warmed my heart is when they decided to dance in the rain when it wouldn’t let up during their reception.  They weren’t going to allow a little rain to ruin their fun!

Oak Lodge is a lovely venue, with a variety of overnight accommodations, and lot of amazing spaces to host a wedding.  The bride started getting ready in the Eagles Nest and the groom got ready at the Lodge.

The ceremony took place in the Chapel, made of stone and hardwood with stained-glass windows.  I love the rustic benches the guests are seated on and the church bell in the tower.  Oak Lodge is full of charming details and the Chapel is the venue’s capstone.  This ceremony was short by sweet with their church’s minister officiating.

For their portraits after the ceremony, we started at Church Rock, which overlooks the valley below.  And then we went to the fern-filled path through the woods, the Oak Lodge coordinator brought along umbrellas and it’s a good thing, because the rain really started to fall.  Then we went to the porch at the Lodge for some coverage while we waited for the rain to ease up and our last stop was the small fountain with the waterfall by Eagles Nest.  There truly are so many great photo spots there.

And now, it’s time to really celebrate!  From the toasts to the cake cutting, this reception had so many warm memories.  And one of the best parts about weddings at Oak Lodge is dancing under the string lights on the stone patio outside between the reception hall and Chapel.  And while a misty rain still lingered, the bride and groom were the first couple on the dance floor and within seconds it was full.

If you’re planning a wedding at Oak Lodge or elsewhere in Pittsburgh or Cranberry Township, I’d love to hear from you.
