Pittsburgh Newborn Sessions: Some Perspective on Scheduling

It’s been a pleasure to photograph this sweet family over the last four years. And when their daughter was born, I honestly couldn’t wait to photograph her newborn session. As with many babies born during the pandemic this past winter, her newborn session was scheduled much later as we waited for spring. At four months old, newborn sessions look a little bit different. Babies are not just bigger, but more bright-eyed and active. This little sweetie has awesome tummy time skills and a great relationship with her big brothers. Perhaps one of the best benefits of babies being photographed at four months is how easily her mom and dad could get her to smile!

Time of Day

When we initially talked about scheduling this session, we talked about meeting at a park. However, my preference for scheduling outdoor sessions either first thing in the day or closer to sunset wasn’t optimal for a young family’s schedule. So to allow for more flexibility, this mom decided to have the session take place at their home so that they could schedule during the day. Most of the session was lit with the afternoon sun that filtered through their windows as this home has tons of natural light. And after a bit, we moved to their back yard, which offered just enough shade on this bright sunny day.

The Best Time To Schedule?

I think this session goes to show that with a lifestyle approach, there is no wrong answer to that question. When babies are with their family in a natural setting, it’s more about capturing the relationships as well as a baby’s new abilities with all of the amazing milestones that happen in that first year. If you’re interested in scheduling a newborn session, I’d love to hear from you.
