Pittsburgh Newborn Portraits: Autumn in the North Hills

This newborn portrait session took place in October at the family’s home in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. We started in the nursery where the family dog joined in the fun.

The sweet baby boy napped on and off throughout the session.  At one point when he was restless, we stepped outside for a change of atmosphere. I love the image of dad comforting his son on their deck. We learned that it wasn’t fresh air that the baby wanted. His mama suggested snuggling the baby into his sleep sack and he became quite content. Sometimes when a newborn isn’t content, we do trial and error until we find what makes the baby happy.  And isn’t that just what it’s like parenting a newborn?  Especially in the first few weeks, it’s a bit of a guessing game.

We wrapped up the session outside with some colorful scenery that would be perfect for their Christmas card photo. The whole family (including the dog) looks so happy and harmonious together.

Coronavirus Precautions

Throughout the last year, I worked only when permitted by the guidelines outlined by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.  I’ve worn a mask and sanitized my hands and have had no need to touch babies or parents.  Because I shoot with a lifestyle approach, I can capture the baby in the parent’s arms or guide them on where to go without any need for posing.  Going forward, I’m happy to continue to wear a mask and will accommodate my client’s requests to keep them safe. It’s important to me that my clients feel at ease when we work together and can enjoy the process of capturing moments in their family history.
