Introducing Pittsburgh Senior Portraits by Captivating Imagery

I love photographing high school seniors. There are no two seniors alike and it’s fun to see what happens when the focus is all on them. For some, it takes a little while to ease into the session before they let their personality shine through, and others are seem to soak up every minute of their time in the spotlight. My approach to senior portraits is unique in Pittsburgh. I’m not big on props or maintaining a large selection of backdrops. I like to keep it simple and focus on making the students comfortable so that their portraits really reveal their character. I enjoy getting to know the students over the course of their session and I don’t like tight time constraints. A 30-minute session would never work with my approach. In some cases, it takes that much time to really get comfortable in front of the camera. It’s more about the experience. Senior portraits are an important milestone in a student’s life and it should be an enjoyable experience.

Here’s a slide show of some of the students I’ve had the pleasure of photographing over the past year. They’re all so different and that is a beautiful thing.

Pittsburgh Engagement Photography Session with a stop at Mt. Washington

Back in May, I tagged along with Alex Jones, commercial photographer extraordinaire, for a Pittsburgh engagement session with Jonnie and Jim. We started out at SteelGate Studio for a few traditional portraits and then headed to Mt. Washington to catch the sunset and the downtown night sky. While Mt. Washington is one of those common hot spots for portraits of brides and grooms, it takes on a totally different feel at night. And I love it! But first, let’s take a look at some engagement photos in the studio. Not long ago, studio portraits were a standard for engaged couples—think newspaper announcements. Now, the trend is on-location photography, and while I’m a big fan of going on location, I can really appreciate the ability to create beautiful lighting in the studio. So here are a few studio portraits to start things off.

Pittsburgh Photo Christmas Cards

If you’re like me, this fall has thrown me for a loop with above average temperatures. The Pittsburgh wedding photography season may have come to a close, but I’m still busy with designing albums I haven’t done a lick of Christmas shopping and I’m starting to feel time slip through my fingers. And before I get started with presents, I am one of those crazy ladies who likes to send Christmas cards with a photo of my dog. I think this will change someday when we have children, but for now Brownie graces the front of the Miller Christmas cards.

The session includes a web gallery and the choice of one high-resolution digital image to be retouched and emailed to you with permission to print for personal use. Additional photos from your session can be purchased online via your web gallery. Time is ticking!

Recap on a March Maternity Session

Nicolette and Travis were so much fun to work with during their maternity session.  I know they are going to be fantastic parents.  Here are my favorite now that all of the edits are complete:

Expecting momma

This is one of the color variations from a pose that was posted in their sneak peek. Nicolette is gorgeous and I love her naturally curly hair.

The happy couple

You can just see that these guys love that baby.

Baby bump

I love a good 3/4 view of the belly. Nicolette is living proof that pregnancy is beautiful.

Soon to be Mommy and Daddy

This is going to be one good lookin’ baby!

A little romance

You can see that this couple is very much in love.

Pregnant woman

She looks good and she knows it!

Antique black and white

I went antique with the black and white. It’s a softer look that I find suiting for a maternity session.

Kissing the baby

I like Travis’ sweetness in this moment.

Steelers fans

I have a feeling their little one is going to have a Steelers jersey some day.

Thanks again, Nicolette and Travis! Blessings to you and your growing family.

Sneak peek: Maternity session

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with Nicolette and Travis for a maternity session. This session was a baby shower gift for Nicolette from her sister-in-law-to-be. I think this is a great gift idea – not just because it’s good for business, but it’s so unexpected and thoughtful. We took our time on a Sunday afternoon and really had a lot of fun with this session. Here are just a few favorites for a sneak peek:

More to come next week…

Thanks Nicolette and Travis – it was tons of fun spending time with you in the studio!
