Sarah and Terry’s wedding at Phipps Conservatory and the Pittsburgh Zoo

Sarah and Terry were married in the beautiful garden at Phipps Conservatory on a Sunday afternoon.  Their reception followed at the Pittsburgh Zoo in a tent above the zoo’s education center.  Sarah’s strapless gown was intricately beaded with a bubble hem that really gave the train form, so that whatever Sarah did whether it be walk down the aisle or exchanging vows, the train was always perfectly in place.  It even looked great when it was bustled!  As a photographer, I can really appreciate that.  Sarah’s bridesmaids were dressed in a fabulous shade of orange.  I wouldn’t know what to call that shade, but it looked great with their flowers.  Here’s a cute moment of some last-minute primping after the other bridesmaids left to begin the processional.

Here’s a great shot of Terry and the guys by Leeann, who assisted as second shooter.  You can check out more of her work at Leeann Marie Photography.

Sarah and her eight bridesmaids look lovely and fresh here despite the heat of the late-summer heat wave.

Sarah and Terry are such a stunning couple.  I love how he’s looking into her eyes.

They really let loose with their cake cutting.  It was fun to see their playful side.

I can’t help but post this photo of Terry wearing the cake.  What a good sport!

See what I mean about the train?  It just flowed perfectly in to shape, even on the dance floor.

And lastly (for now), here’s one of my favorites of them dancing.

Brittany and Paul’s wedding at St. Catherine’s of Sweeden and PPG Aquarium

Brittany and Paul were married on a gorgeous Saturday earlier this month. Their ceremony was held at St. Catherine’s in Gibsonia and Brittany was absolutely stunning. She has a classic look about her like a Hollywood beauty from the ’30s or ’40s.

Although her dress was the latest in fashion with a fitted bodice and asymmetrical gathers below the drop waist.

And Paul was very distinguished in his uniform.

After the ceremony they released some doves at the entrance to the church.

Then they headed to their reception at the PPG Aquarium, inside the Pittsburgh Zoo.  Here’s a great photo taken by Leeann, a very talented second shooter.  Leeann has her own photography business: Leeann Marie Photography.

I love the passionate kisses that take place over the course of a wedding.  Here’s one right after the cake cutting.

And here’s the last for this blog entry (more to come soon!).  This is my favorite image of Brittany and Paul dancing.  To me, this image just breathes the peace and happiness you feel as a newly married couple when you finally get a moment to let it all sink in.  Congratulations Brittany and Paul!  Blessings to you and your marriage!

The lonely pear

“Why pears?” you ask.  Why not?  I’m working on a light painting project and the first assignment was the painted pear.  It was lit with a small tungsten flashlight.  Thanks to Cara, my fearless comrade who held a diffuser and painted the light at the same time!

This has been a much more subtle approach for me.  I like to write with LED lights and have been asking bridal parties to give it a try.  I’m nearly done with editing those weddings and will post them soon…

Olivia, Katie and Lily: a little lady and two beautiful babies

Children’s portraits have always fascinated me. Not being a mother myself, I can really appreciate how mothers can encourage the tiniest of babies to smile and no less, soothe their crying. This is all the more important in the studio when the photographer has the perfect shot lined up, it’s truly magic when it all comes together. Here are a few sweet portraits of some of the cutest little ladies in my neighborhood.

Natalie and Chuck’s wedding

Natalie and Chuck were married at First Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh and their reception was at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.  They planned to have their ceremony and reception downtown so that guests would be able to stay in the city. A shuttle provided transportation to and from the ceremony.

Doesn’t Natalie look stunning in this swanky setting?

Chuck and his entourage look dapper in this action shot.  They are men on a mission.

The Lutheran church’s sanctuary was a breath-taking setting for the couple’s nuptials.

We walked to Mellon Square for some photos by the fountain.

We also stopped by the Clemente Bridge on our way to the reception. The bridge was closed to traffic that night because of the Pirates game.
