Studio Christmas Portraits

I adore photographing this family and have enjoyed seeing their baby boy grow over this last year. He’s getting a little tougher to capture as he’s on the move now, but I think we found some sweet shots of him in their Christmas session.

This is the first blog post I’ve shared from this family, so I’ll be going backwards this winter to catch up on some blogging, but for now, tis the season for sharing Christmas photos!

One of my tricks for active little guys and girls is to put them in a big chair that’s not too high off of the ground. This cutie pie was more adventurous than I thought, so we had to have mom and dad just off camera to be there to grab him when he got too close to the edge of the chair.

And here’s the whole family. Aren’t they sweet?

And this last shot is just a glimpse of him crawling out of the photo. Photographing a crawling baby or toddler is like an aerobic work-out for all involved. It gets easier when little ones can start to understand more and you can use motivators like candy! I’m not ashamed to say that I have candy on hand anytime I’m photographing my own boys! But I completely get it when a parent wants to wait until after their child’s first birthday to introduce sweets. I did that with my first son (my second got lucky that I caved in on that stance the second time around – his first lolipop was in our Christmas photos when he was 9 months old and it worked like a charm!)

It can be challenging with a little one on the move, but what a precious time to capture that developing personality. And his mama cares very much about capturing all of these special memories! Many wishes for a blessed holiday!

Andrea and Andrew’s PNC Park Wedding

Just finished this last wedding of the year, I’m happy to conclude 2016 with a beauty! Andrea and Andrew are a delight to photograph and their wedding was full of gorgeous details and sweet moments.

getting ready for the ceremony

One of my favorites from the ceremony is Andrea and her Dad walking down the aisle.

And I had to include this sweet moment as they’re walking out of their ceremony. How lovely it is to see a happy bride and groom!

Andrea and Andrew had one of their first dates at a Pirates game and thought it fitting to hold their reception at PNC Park. It also made for some lovely scenery for their photos!

The bridal party had fun with this shot and even got into singing, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame!” This looks like it could be Andrea and Andrew’s very own musical.

Really love the contented look on Andrea’s face. What a sweet moment!

Their reception in the Lexus Club at PNC was stunning! It was a cold day, but that didn’t matter with the warmth that surrounded us at this joyful wedding.

Maternity Session at Hartwood Acres

When I received an email from Sara asking about scheduling a maternity session, my heart swelled. I photographed Sara and Nick’s wedding and love the opportunity to get to extend the story of their growing family through photography. They are such a sweet couple and their baby is one blessed child. I’m just catching up on some long overdue blogging and this precious baby is already a few months old. More of his newborn session to come!

I love Sara’s dress and sandals.

Hartwood Acres was particularly busy with photoshoots that day, but we all worked together and took turns.

These two are real sweethearts!

This garden is beautiful and very well protected with an electric fence. I only brushed against it and got a little zap!

Below is my favorite shot from the session. It was right outside the parking lot, so I could easily grab my step ladder and change the perspective. Who doesn’t like being photographed from above?

Cozy In-home Maternity Session: Ronnie and Brad

When it comes to spending time away from my main job as a mama, there are few things I enjoy more than photographing growing families. This in-home session with Ronnie and Brad was no exception, because I love to document the time before a baby arrives. I feel like you can see all of the hopes and dreams in the eyes of expectant parents.

It’s fun to see all of the details they pull together to celebrate their baby on the way!

This photo above reminds me of a sonogram image because of the pattern of white surrounding them as they sit in the corner of this window seat. If it’s just me, I chalk it up to staring at the images as I was narrowing down my choices to share in this post.

If you’re a dog owner, then you know that no session is complete without a shot of the fuzzy child with four legs.

And here’s one last detail that I just can’t resist sharing – daddy serenading his baby.

Lifestyle Newborn Session: Baby Wesley

Meet Baby Wesley, also known as their little Smurf by his adoring mom and dad. I had the pleasure of photographing their maternity session too. I just loved photographing Megan and Rick on their farm and their newborn session with Wesley was no different. We even got outside for a few family portraits with his extended family! But my favorite images from this session are by far the lifestyle images that mostly took place on the bed in their bedroom. I’ll get to those in a bit, but for now, meet this precious little guy!

newborn close-up

We started out focusing on Wesley with a few accessories and some minimal props and we found out that Wesley preferred his mama and dada’s arms. So we took breaks so that they could soothe him in order to get some of the essential shots we were after. This one below is one of Rick soothing Wesley to sleep and it happens to be a favorite.

And once he was out, he slept quite peacefully, so much so that we could even place him in this vintage bath basin from Megan’s family.

And here’s where I started to fall in love with this session – Megan swaddled Wesley and sat on the edge of her bed in the soft natural light.

Then Rick joined her and they scooted back toward the headboard where the window light was glowing.

And here’s my all-time favorite of the three of them. They actually chose this for a framed print and I’m so excited to put it together.

And here’s a sweet pose that I don’t often think of, but Megan suggested it and I’m so glad she did!

Congratulations, Megan and Rick! Wesley is precious and it’s such an honor to photograph your family! Blessings to you!
