This newborn session was given as a shower gift by the mama’s cousin. What a thoughtful gift for an expecting mom?! And her baby girl was so very cooperative, that is was really a gift for all involved! She was completely content to curl up in her crib and did not fuss at the crocheted crown.
It’s completely natural for babies to fuss and I come expecting it, but this session was an absolute breeze.
I really love it when babies look up at their parents.
And the faces they make when mommies kiss them.
This session was just a few weeks before Christmas, so we did a few family portraits in front of the Christmas tree. It looks like someone’s getting sleepy!
Now she’s all ready for her nap! Good job, mom, dad, and baby girl! Congratulations on your little blessing!

This Shadyside newborn session happened last fall and I still have warm and fuzzy feelings about it! When Nicole contacted me she was looking to capture mostly family photos and I definitely get that. I want to see the whole family too—as moms we’re not often photographed and it’s important to me to be able to see myself with my kids when I look back. Just look at this adorable little family and the cute baby with his head slumped to the side. He really steals the show!
Here’s a close-up of him so you can relish the cuteness.
I remember when my youngest son was born, just how much I wanted a photo of my two boys together, even though my oldest was two and a half and not yet feeling so great about becoming a big brother. And I see this desire in other moms too. We won’t let our toddlers hold the baby without the support of an adult, but we must find a way to capture just the two of them together! And a cozy corner of a couch or lying side-by-side are my safest bets to accomplish this. This big brother was having tons of fun with his baby brother snuggling into him. And I love how this sweet baby looks over at him!
Being photographed with a baby is not easy, but this mama is rocking it!
And we had to capture this little guy’s cuteness! He is going to be such a great big brother!
My favorite shot from the session – everyone is happy and the boys couldn’t be any cuter!
So excited to share the newborn photos that I mentioned in my post about Sara and Nick’s maternity session. What a sweet little baby! And I love it that Sara kept it simple and swaddled him in a muslin blanket. No need for a coordinating outfit—he is adorable as is!
I love this shot of dad, baby and dog. This cute dachshund is learning to share laps and accept that he is no longer the center of attention. And props to Nick for being able to manage them both!
Oh, the sweetness!
Here’s their first family portrait:
I just love how this doggie is looking over the baby too!
I haven’t met a baby yet who didn’t love this basket.
Wrinkly baby feet are the best!
Congratulations, mama and dada! Blessings to you and your beautiful family!
When I received an email from Sara asking about scheduling a maternity session, my heart swelled. I photographed Sara and Nick’s wedding and love the opportunity to get to extend the story of their growing family through photography. They are such a sweet couple and their baby is one blessed child. I’m just catching up on some long overdue blogging and this precious baby is already a few months old. More of his newborn session to come!
I love Sara’s dress and sandals.
Hartwood Acres was particularly busy with photoshoots that day, but we all worked together and took turns.
These two are real sweethearts!
This garden is beautiful and very well protected with an electric fence. I only brushed against it and got a little zap!
Below is my favorite shot from the session. It was right outside the parking lot, so I could easily grab my step ladder and change the perspective. Who doesn’t like being photographed from above?

Meet Baby Wesley, also known as their little Smurf by his adoring mom and dad. I had the pleasure of photographing their maternity session too. I just loved photographing Megan and Rick on their farm and their newborn session with Wesley was no different. We even got outside for a few family portraits with his extended family! But my favorite images from this session are by far the lifestyle images that mostly took place on the bed in their bedroom. I’ll get to those in a bit, but for now, meet this precious little guy!
We started out focusing on Wesley with a few accessories and some minimal props and we found out that Wesley preferred his mama and dada’s arms. So we took breaks so that they could soothe him in order to get some of the essential shots we were after. This one below is one of Rick soothing Wesley to sleep and it happens to be a favorite.
And once he was out, he slept quite peacefully, so much so that we could even place him in this vintage bath basin from Megan’s family.
And here’s where I started to fall in love with this session – Megan swaddled Wesley and sat on the edge of her bed in the soft natural light.
Then Rick joined her and they scooted back toward the headboard where the window light was glowing.
And here’s my all-time favorite of the three of them. They actually chose this for a framed print and I’m so excited to put it together.
And here’s a sweet pose that I don’t often think of, but Megan suggested it and I’m so glad she did!
Congratulations, Megan and Rick! Wesley is precious and it’s such an honor to photograph your family! Blessings to you!
