A Guide to Choosing the Right Photographer

Hello! You have probably opened quite a few websites today and are hoping to find the photographer who is just right for you. Here are a few tips!

Portfolio

Does their style match what you are looking for? If you don’t love what they do and how they do it, you may not be completely satisfied. Alternatively, if you love a photographer’s style, asking them to change various things for your session can result in a very different outcome from what you see in their portfolio. Is there a photographer with a style your heart instantly falls in love with?

Key Point: If you love a photographer’s work, allow them to have creative control to achieve the same for you.

Products

What kind of artwork are you hoping to end up with after your session? Does your home have wall space where you can enjoy seeing your portraits everyday? Would your kids adore seeing their portrait on the wall? Do you want the entire story of your session in an album to sit down as a family and flip through as the years go by? Or maybe you want the ability to choose your photos and have input on retouching?  A photographer who provides a consultation after the session can help with narrowing down selections as you determine the best way to display your photos.

Key Point: Make sure you love what your photographer offers to their clients & makes it easy for you to decide on those items.

Styling

Who will help you with clothing? Do you prefer a photographer who can make recommendations, help you shop online or provides a wardrobe?  Would adding a hair and make-up artist be helpful?  If you’re not sure of what to wear, hiring a photographer who helps with styling can be a relief.  And finding one who works with a hair and makeup artist is even better!

Key Point: If you don’t know what to wear, search for a photographer who can style your family.

Professionalism

Overall, how does a photographer make you feel when you visit their website and correspond with them? Are they excited to work with you? Are they prompt in their responses? Are they professional? Do you trust them to be consistent in what they create so that your images will be just as wonderful as what you see on their website? Do they have experience and expertise in their chosen niche?

Key Point: Being 100% confident in your choice of photographer translates into a wonderful experience and natural confidence in front of the camera.

Am I the right photographer for you? Maybe! I’d love to chat more with you and find out. And if I’m not the right photographer for you, that’s okay.  I want my clients to be 110% happy with their experience and images and I hope that you can use these tips as you search for the photographer who is just right for your needs.

Truly,

Kate
