Photography Mentorship
1-on-1 Course with Six-Lessons:
Learn from Kate’s 17-years of experience as a portrait photographer as she breaks down the technical aspects of photography in a fun and simple way. Each month will include an assignment to help you internalize what you’ve learned.
One: Exposure Triangle, Exposure Modes and Camera Settings
These are the essential fundamentals that you need to understand as a photographer.
Two: Understanding Metering
During this lesson you’ll learn the difference between what your eyes can see and what the camera can capture as well as how the camera measures the exposure.
Three: White Balance/Kelvin, Image Sharpness
This lesson will introduce color temperature and the components of a sharp image. You’ll learn how to avoid photos that don’t “turn out” and how to achieve consistent results.
Four: Position of the Sun and Composition Considerations
Kate’s favorite lesson! We get outside and learn how to respond to the position of the sun and the condition of the sky (sunny/overcast). This is the beginning of understanding lighting. And we get creative with exploring composition.
Five: Processing Your Images
Learn how to cull, process and export your files using Photo Mechanic (or Adobe Bridge) and Capture One (or Adobe Lightroom).
Six: Intro to Retouching, Resizing Your Images for Print/Web, Printing and Backing Up Your Work
Learn the basics of Photoshop and how to print your photography and preserve it, one of the most important steps in becoming a photographer.
Pricing
Six 50-minute lessons over six months (or three months with lessons every-other week)
$600
Additional sessions can be added on at $100/50-minutes.
What You Will Need:
DSLR or mirrorless camera so you can shoot in manual mode
An interchangeable lens
There are two paths available when purchasing your first camera and lens.
1: save money and purchased a cropped sensor and lens if you are wanting to learn but are unsure if you will continue your learning beyond this course
2: invest in a full-frame camera and lens if you want to make large prints and want to continue to use this camera and lens as you grow as a photographer (if you’re hoping to work as a photographer someday, I’d recommend this path).
Camera, lens and tripod available for rent with a $500 deposit
