Pittsburgh Family Portraits: Spring in Schenley Park

Despite the fluctuating weather, signs of spring in Pittsburgh are popping up everywhere. Ushering in a new season is an opportunity to grow and approach my work bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (I couldn’t resist bunny imagery this close to Easter)! At the same time, as I’ve shared before, I love looking back on my portfolio to reflect on the moments I’ve captured and the families I’ve worked with. At this Pittsburgh family portrait session from last spring, I photographed the sweet family pictured here at Schenley Park. Just like Pittsburgh neighborhoods, I’ve found that every city park in the ‘burgh has a special feel. Schenley Park is busy and vibrant, making it the perfect setting for an energetic and growing family’s portrait session. This was my third session with this couple over the years and we had a blast!

As we walked around Schenley Park, we paused here and there to keep the little one entertained. Photo sessions for kids between one and four can substitute for a daily workout! I love that the little bit of extra activity translates into joyful energy in photos. For this two-year-old cutie, lots of running around and tickles were involved. And snacks! We captured the sweetest moment of dad giving his son an applesauce packet. What a real moment in the life of a toddler parent!

To wrap up the session, we shot into the sunset at Schenley Overlook. Lots of people there were taking in the view, stretched out on blankets enjoying the springtime weather. I like soft outline of the Pittsburgh skyline in the background as a nod to the city that this family calls home.
