South Park—Pittsburgh Winter Portrait Session

Last week, I found unexpected joy in photographing Gabi and David at South Park. They’ve been married for a few years and wanted some updated photos, but I was surprised when they were looking to schedule an outdoor session in December. They love the outdoors and a studio session was not what they were looking for, so we scheduled and hoped for no rain.

I was worried about them being cold and miserable spending an hour outside in 40 degree weather (I tend to hibernate like a bear during the winter), but they didn’t seem to mind the cold and actually had fun with it! Maybe I should shake up my habits and get outside more during the winter?!

I had so much fun photographing this session and realized how silly I was to suggest waiting until spring. I was thinking that everything is cold and grey during the winter and that they probably wouldn’t like it if their noses and cheeks were rosy in the photos. But can anyone deny their charm in these photos?

The first three images in this post are in color, and I’m so pleased that the scenery at South Park offered lots of beauty and Gabi did a great job coordinating their wardrobe to compliment the winter hues. But some of my favorites form this session are black and whites.

These two started out a little shy—it takes a while to get fully comfortable with a camera pointed at you. But as they warmed up, the flirtation was so much fun to capture!

I will never tire of this set-up: updside down on the ground. Everyone looks stunning in it and the light is just right on an overcast day.

Gabi and David, thank you so much for the opportunity to document this chapter in your journey. And for opening my eyes to the joy of photographing portraits outdoors in the cold! Blessings to you!

Omni Bedford Springs Resort engagement session with Sara and Luke

I met up with Sara and Luke in Bedford for an engagement session in the posh Omni Bedford Springs Resort. We were both en route from holiday family gatherings and the resort happened to be a terrific place for an indoor engagement session, out of the snowy cold. I highly recommend staying there if you’re traveling across Pennsylvania. It is a beautiful 200 year-old resort that was recently renovated with respect for it’s original design and a nod to the luxurious. Anyhow, Sara, Luke and I were happy to spend a couple of hours there. And this couple was a complete delight. Below are a few favorites from our shoot:

Sweet nothings

At one point through the shoot, a man walked by in just a bathrobe. Sara and Luke were trying to keep from cracking up for their photos, but they couldn’t hold it for long.

In an embrace

I really liked photographing them in this lounge. It had tons of natural light and wicker chaise lounges lined up all along the windows for guests to stop and enjoy the view.

I love sequencing moments and this adorable couple can pull it off.

Their wedding will take place at Green Gables in Jennerstown this summer. Sara and Luke, I’m looking forward to working with you again at your wedding!

Sneak Peek of Celeste and Aaron’s Philadelphia wedding

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Celeste for several years now and when Aaron came into her life, it was so exciting to see their romance develop. As a dear friend of mine, I was thrilled for Celeste when Aaron proposed and could not wait until their wedding. They were just married this Saturday in Philadelphia, during the record snow storm and it was amazing! It was a beautiful wedding and they had a full day of fluffy, white snow flakes – which is just what they were going for with their winter wedding. Below are a few of my favorites from their day. More to come soon!

Dacia and Mike’s Wedding

Dacia and Mike were hoping for a winter wedding, and while the snow was relentless in the weeks leading up to their day, it was oddly warm on that first Saturday in February.  Imagine that; Pittsburgh weather is unpredictable!  Anyhow, they had a beautiful day despite the unseasonably warm weather.
