Pittsburgh Wedding Photography: Essential Coverage for Simple Weddings

It can be tricky for brides and grooms to know just how long they’ll need a photographer on their wedding day.  Or a second shooter for that matter.  Of course there’s no right answer as it largely depends on the couple’s desires, but when there is uncertainty, I like to suggest a few considerations to help in making that decision. Also, I’m pleased to share some highlights from this beautiful wedding which was captured in just six hours.

Pittsburgh Wedding Photography at Phipps Conservatory and Hyeholde

Whew! I’m a bit behind on my blogging after a very busy month of May with lots and lots of shooting. It’s been great and I’ll have lots to show for it in the next few weeks, but now I’d like to focus on a beautiful wedding that took place at Phipps Conservatory. Stephanie and Ed were married in the Broderie room and it couldn’t have been lovelier! Between the lush greenery at Phipps and the beautiful blooms in Stephanie’s bouquet by Hepatica, I can’t think of the last time I saw such gorgeous flowers.

Wedding at The Hyeholde in Moon Township

Yukiko and Brian were married at The Hyeholde Restaurant in Moon Township. Their ceremony was held outside in a secluded lawn that is surrounded by a garden and trees. Yukiko got ready in the dressing room there and this portrait by Alex Jones happens to be one of my favorites of her.

beautiful bride

Yukiko had everything together and was ready well before her ceremony so that we had plenty of time to photograph her inside and outside.

This is another favorite of mine. It was so much fun to work with her.

Here’s Brian as his bride was walking down the aisle. He’s so proud.

Groom at first glance of his bride

The ceremony was short and sweet. Yukiko’s maid of honor read a Japanese poem and Brian’s sister-in-law read it’s translation in English. The couple met while teaching in South Korea. Brian taught English and Yukiko taught Japanese. Now they’re getting ready to plant some roots in the States.

exchange of vows

They held hands whenever possible and that just makes me smile.

They’re both so elegant and reserved, that it was fun to see them be silly with one another.

Here are two more favorites. The first is by Alex. I think this is a great example of what you can expect with two photographers. It’s the same moment, but there’s a lot more variety when designing an album this way.

Yukiko brought some great wedding favors from Japan. The “beckoning cat” is a common Japanese figure believed to bring good luck.

These beautifully wrapped packages contained green tea cookies. Thanks to Alex for capturing these details!

Yukiko and Brian were very sweet when it came to cutting the cake. No cake smashing here!

I heard the baker mention the cake was made with Scharffen Berger chocolate and raspberry ganache and judging by Yukiko’s reaction, it must have been good. The Hyeholde is great place for smaller weddings. Their food is delicious and the intimate setting is very romantic. It’s tucked into a residential neighborhood, but that is quickly forgotten after winding through the long drive to the main building. And it’s a photographer’s delight with stunning scenery.

Yukiko and Brian, thanks for a wonderful day and many blessings to you and your marriage!

Gina and Corey, continued

Did I mention they choreographed their first dance? It was a complete surprise to everyone. No one even knew they were taking ballroom lessons. Here are a few photos of Gina and Corey on the dance floor.

They worked out an awesome play list with their DJ and the dance floor was the place to be at this reception.

Dancing the night away

I think that is my favorite 1/40th of a second ever. I love how her dress fills the lower frame. If you love to dance, you know what it feels like in this moment.

Gina and Corey’s Wedding at the Hyeholde

What a fabulous wedding! Gina was a stunning bride and Corey was her chivalrous groom. Their ceremony and reception took place at the Hyeholde in Moon Township and every detail was brimming with style. I really like the use of corks to hold the guests place cards. The reception tables were draped in white linens and tables were adorned with wispy floral centerpieces in the beautiful Round Room of this unique restaurant. The design of the cake actually matched the floral centerpieces and it was as delicious as it was beautiful with a medley of flavors: chocolate cake, mint ganache and butter cream icing—to die for! Gina made a sign for out-of-town guests about the tradition of the cookie table at Pittsburgh weddings. She and Corey put their creative geniuses together and created a dazzling atmosphere for their wedding. Also, major props to the director of events and staff at Hyeholde, very professional indeed.

From their heartfelt vows to their first dance choreographed to Better Together by Jack Johnson, this couple really tugged on my heartstrings!

Gina and Corey, best wishes for a long and happy marriage and the many adventures that await in India!
