Pittsburgh Newborn Session: Gifting A Session

This recent session was a gift from a mom to her daughter and son-in-law and I love the thoughtfulness from this new grandma.  She’s giving her daughter’s family the opportunity to capture the sweetness of this precious, fleeting time.  And it’s a gift that she’ll probably enjoy just as much as her daughter!

Cranberry Newborn Session: All Dressed Up And No Where to Go

I’m a sucker for baby boys all dressed up. I guess that comes from being a boy mom and wanting to have fun dressing my babies in tiny suspenders and wingtip shoes. So when this family dressed to match their little man, I felt a kinship and knew we’d have a lot of fun during their session.

Pittsburgh Family Photography: Seeing the Value in Everyday Moments

Being able to look back at all kinds of moments in my family brings me a lot of peace and joy.  I love seeing the milestones, like birthdays and school portraits, but it’s the in-between moments that I really treasure.  And I think this session with this 6-month old cutie pie is a perfect example of capturing the everyday.

Pittsburgh Newborn Photographer: Staying Warm During Cozy In-Home Sessions

Looking back on this newborn session from August, I’m recalling a lesson learned that seems very apt for this cold snowy day.

hello baby!

hello baby!

This tiny sweetheart was having a rough day. She was fussy, though I don’t think you’d know it from these photos, but I could tell this mama was feeling defeated because her baby girl just wasn’t feeling it.

The session went long because we were trying everything. Toward the end of the session, I suggested going outside because I thought she’d like the fresh air and a change of atmosphere and we ended up discovering that this baby girl was probably cold! Immediately, she settled and went right to sleep. Even though her home was a comfortable temperature inside on this hot, summer day, with the outfit changes and bare skin, baby girl was cold!

Pittsburgh Newborn Photography: Let Your Home Set the Tone

I don’t think it occurred to me when I photographed this newborn session, that this home and the family’s wardrobe had a wonderfully consistent color palette. I did remember thinking I wish this family could come and decorate my home! But when I got to work on editing their images, I started noticing a lovely tone that makes their images look like a cohesive set, regardless of which room the family was photographed in. We started in their living room.

This sweet baby was awake most of the session and very curious about the camera!

With a Very Hungry Caterpillar-inspired nursery, this lemon print swaddle was perfect!

I really love seeing babies peek back at my camera through their cribs!

And seeing them in their parents arms is even better – so peaceful!

Being able to photograph babies in their parent’s arms is one of the reasons I love the lifestyle approach to photography. For three reasons: the baby is so content, it’s natural, and mom and dad are part of the picture!

And I can’t get enough of tiny baby feet.
