Engagement Session: Cranberry Woods
This engagement session in Cranberry Woods was such a breath of fresh air. It is so sweet to spend time with a young couple in love and I think when you look through these images, you’ll feel lovey-dovey too!

With a snow storm in the forecast, it’s fun to look back at this family session in the peak of Fall foliage last year. The fall gets so busy that it’s easy for lovely sessions like this one to get lost in the shuffle. But now that the holidays are past, it’s time to catch up and reflect. And with these school-aged boys, I’m reminded that lifestyle sessions are great for families regardless of the age of their children.
My thought when I first received this session inquiry is, hmm, what can we do to keep the session fun for this 6- and 8-year old boy? Well, that answer came naturally when this mom asked about a woodsy location. There is so much to explore in this Cranberry location that the boys found their own fun! And when the whole family joins in and goes with the flow, the rest is magic!
This is my favorite picture of these two. I’m a mom of two boys too and I just love to see them play like this!
We walked along a path through the woods, stopping for family portraits here and there.
The session was fast-paced and the boys never lost interest.
Seeing our children enjoy each other’s company is one of the most rewarding moments as a parent. I know from my own experience, that photos of my two boys laughing together are some of my most prized possessions.
If you or someone you know is looking for family portraits with a fresh and fun approach, I’d love to hear from you! It’s not too early to start planning for spring sessions! Contact me here to get started with planning.
When I was a young girl, I loved playing with my sister in the woods. It was always an adventure exploring new spots in the lovely woods at the edge of our backyard. I guess I still do, because when my clients are open to suggestions for locations, this spot is often on my list.
I love that it easily accessible and so family-friendly with paved walkways!
These little cuties really enjoyed my assistant, Miss Kitty, and they actually laughed when I made her meow! Sometimes it’s just crickets, but it was easy getting these two to smile!
It’s plain to see how these kiddos are loved.
This dad read a favorite book. What a precious scene!?!
And we took a few moments to photograph just the two of them, because your last portrait as a couple should not be from your wedding day! And I plan to do the same when my own family is photographed next month.
A first birthday is a great time to schedule a portrait session. Our babies learn and grow so much over the first year, so there is so much to celebrate! And while you’re at it, it’s a great opportunity to update your family portrait, which is exactly what this sweet family did. I’ll start of with this photo of the big and little sister – how precious to have a photograph of these two to look back on?
Bubbles are a favorite activity for little ones during sessions and this big sister was pleased to help with the bubble-making!
Little ones learning to walk is pretty high up there in my list of favorite things to photograph. So proud!
And Cranberry Woods has these amazing paths through the woods that make for great and safe walking shots. No roots to trip on!
We stepped a little farther into the woods for this family portrait.
This mama wanted to document her daughter’s first taste of cake and even made the cake herself! Very impressive!
While this little sweetie was timid, she definitely enjoyed her cake!
Occasionally, I’ll get an inquiry from a parent with a son who is not particularly looking forward to his senior portraits. Let’s be honest, there aren’t many young guys out there who are eager about their senior portraits. Of course, I’d like everyone I photograph to anticipate their session with happy thoughts, but I understand and know that after the first few minutes, said senior will likely feel a sense of relief that it’s really not so bad. At least, this session concluded with a resounding, “that wasn’t painful” or something along those lines.
We started this session at 8 a.m. which is early for any high school student, but this was my last available session before the senior portraits deadline. And while he said he likes to sleep in until about noon on the weekends, this guy handled the early morning like a champ.
We went to Cranberry Woods, which is such a nice and convenient location for portraits.
I encourage my seniors to bring a change of clothes for two looks and I like this casual look on him. And it’s his favorite soccer team, which is all the better when there’s a story to go with the clothes.
For me, this was such a great start to the day. And I think it was better than expected for my subject too!
