Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Wedding Photography

Katherine and Robert were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways after high school and fatefully bumped into each other at a grocery store years later. As her mom put it during a toast, there was something different when they got back together. There was no doubt they were meant to be together. And they made it official last Saturday at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Katherine had her hair done at Studio Booth, a posh salon in East Liberty, and finished getting ready on site at the venue.

The ceremony took place in the Walled Garden at Mellon Park, just next door to the center. This is one of my favorite locations in Pittsburgh. I love formal gardens and this one is really charming. The weather was beautiful with blue skies and bright sun. It was the perfect setting for a late afternoon wedding.

Katherine’s family conducted the ceremony and close relatives from each side read poems and excerpts from favorite books. It was really touching, especially when Katherine and Robert read each other their vows—tear-jerking, actually! They are so sweet with one-another that it melted my heart. After the ceremony, we didn’t have to go far for some portraits of the happy couple.

This one above is by Alex and the one below is by me. We work well together by taking turns with coaching the couple into some light posing so that one can shoot the scene straight on and the other can work it from the side. It’s often the little interactions between poses that become the magical moments.

This one below is my absolute favorite of the day. I’m a dog lover and I know the bond that people share with their canine family members, so this is their first family portrait as a married couple. I just love how the pugs are actually sitting and looking at the camera. I can’t really take credit for that, but I’m sure glad it happened!

Here’s some more sweetness, from this lovey-dovey couple.

And off to the reception!

Katherine and Robert’s reception had a fun garden party theme with Chinese lanterns, potted plants, and small pots of grass as favors. Their tables were marked with small prints of paintings that paired with the escort table, so that guests could easily find their seats.

Much fun was shared during the first dance and other dances that followed. I have to say, there are some weddings that just stand out for the fun that is had on the dance floor and this one was one of them!

In the Walled Garden at Mellon Park, there is an installation of many tiny LED lights that depict the stars in the sky for the day when a baby girl was born. It pays tribute to the woman who grew up in the neighboring mansion. Katherine and Robert sponsored one of the stars as Mellon Park is one of their favorite places to frequent, so we thought it would be fitting to go for a night time shot by their star.

Katherine and Robert, congratulations on your marriage and many blessings to you!

    Kate and Alex,
Thank you, thank you, thank you. The pictures are amazing. The two of you really went the extra mile. You really listened to our needs and pulled out a few exciting surprises (the chaise lounge chair). We can’t thank you enough for helping us document a special day in our lives.

    With oodles of gratitude,
    Katherine and Robert
